Scientists from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the American Cancer Society (ACS) today launch The Cancer Atlas, Fourth Edition, a landmark publication to shape cancer control strategies across the cancer continuum.
The Cancer Atlas provides an overview of the world’s changing cancer burden, presenting insights gleaned from IARC data and research into the underlying risk factors for cancer to highlight proven measures for prevention and control. The publication underscores IARC’s long-standing position, based on 60 years of experience and research, that about half of all cancer cases could be prevented.
IARC scientists authored or collaborated on chapters about human carcinogens, infections, alcohol, early detection, the global cancer burden and specific cancer burdens, cancer survival, population-based cancer registries, universal health care, and health system resilience, amounting to about one third of the chapters in the publication.
