IARC Initiative for Resilience in Cancer Control (IRCC) workshop and presentations at Third International Meeting in Oncology Research in Brazil

Scientists from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) attended the Third International Meeting in Oncology Research, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to deliver presentations, host sessions, and facilitate the workshop “Planejando o Controle do Câncer Resiliente no Brasil” (Planning Resilient Cancer Control in Brazil). The meeting was organized by the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA) to celebrate 20 years of its Graduate Program in Oncology and took place on 1–4 December 2025.

On the first day of the meeting, IARC scientists Dr Isabelle Soerjomataram and Dr Heloise Agreli hosted the workshop, which was co-organized by IARC, INCA, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). The goals of the workshop were to (1) present and discuss findings from the IARC Initiative for Resilience in Cancer Control (IRCC) Brazil case study, (2) identify actionable recommendations for strengthening cancer control in crisis contexts, and (3) align strategies with the Brazilian National Cancer Control Policy, the World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic Agreement, and United Nations commitments on noncommunicable diseases.

Expected outcomes include a shared understanding of resilience in cancer control and a consolidated set of policy-oriented recommendations tailored to Brazil’s health system.

The meeting was included as a satellite symposium of the IARC 60th anniversary celebrations (IARC@60).
