The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) will launch the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumours (WCT) Evidence Explorer at a special event on 25 June 2026. The WCT Evidence Explorer is a new digital tool designed to support evidence-based cancer classification and pathology. The event will be held at IARC in Lyon, France, with the option for participants to join some sessions remotely.
During the event, researchers from IARC and partner institutions who created the WCT Evidence Explorer will present the tool, explain its use as a decision support resource, and discuss recent advances in evidence-based pathology. Participants will be invited to explore the tool hands-on, learn about its main functionalities, and see how it can be used by a wide range of audiences, including researchers, health professionals, and policy-makers. The goal of the WCT Evidence Explorer is to improve transparency and rigour in the use of scientific evidence underpinning the WHO Classification of Tumours.
The WCT Evidence Explorer was developed within the European Union (EU)-funded project titled Mapping the Evidence for the WHO Classification of Tumours: a Living Evidence Gap Map by Tumour Type (WCT EVI MAP), under the umbrella of the International Collaboration for Cancer Classification and Research (IC3R). It uses evidence gap maps to enable users to navigate existing research, identify knowledge gaps, and support transparent, data-driven decision-making related to the WHO Classification of Tumours.
The WCT Evidence Explorer launch event is an opportunity to discover the key outcomes of the WCT EVI MAP project, interact with the team, and speak with other stakeholders shaping the future of evidence-based pathology.
